Hey friends, I'm in a bit of a pickle here and wanted some advice.

My sister is under attack by astral parasites of some sort, rather powerful ones. She suffers from depression and other, non psychotic, mental illnesses. This parasite has a strong hold on her. I have had testimonies from mutual friends that they have felt such an entity, so i don't doubt that she is actually being haunted. Normally i wouldn't bother you guys with this and i'd deal with this myself by giving her the LBRP and teaching her a few mantras, cleansing rituals ect, but things are incredibly complicated.

My sister, being my elder, hates to acknowledge that i actually know what i'm doing. She would never let me teach her anything. The link between parasite and host may have something to do with this, but i won't speculate. Anyway, I have to use my father as a mouthpiece in order to get anything out of her, and what i have gathered from their conversations is nothing to go on.

She claims she instinctively knows how to Astral project and does so by accident, and that she saw the spirit while projecting. She detailed it as having a white face, and white hands. Her description was irritatingly vague. The stories she provides do not add up to any experience of projection i have heard of, or experienced myself. She claims she is in "another realm" and reports no leaving her body, floating sensation, mental control ect. Could this be something else, or is she making it up?

I'm going to try to counter this thing by way of tulpamancy and buddhadharma but i wanted to get your opinions. This is a delicate situation and i was wondering if any other traditions had ideas regarding what i should do?

Everyone experiences the astral a little bit differently. If you seriously suspect that she is faking it and it's just a mater of mental illness you should obviously get her to a doctor.

If your father has any sway on her he should get her to a medical doctor to do a "yearly checkup" just to see so that there is nothing wrong with her insulin levels, mineral deficiency (iron, zink and magnesium deficiency is common these days and especially in women).

If she has any problem sleeping, some sleeping pills are a great way to get some hard earn rest and it also seems to sever the connection to the astral. I've also heard of people using standard SSRI and even anti-histamine to weaken the connection.
If the person doesn't understand that they are stressed or depressed sometimes you can get them to take asthma medication if you can convince them that there breathing is slow/irregular.

Which of course brings us to the more Buddhist approach. Breathing exercises and good old fashion meditation. If she won't listen to you alone, maybe you, your father and sister can visit a temple together or do some sort of ceremony. I recommend the Uposatha now that the autumn moon can be very beautiful with the foliage colors as well.

I good way to get people into meditation without them knowing it is to buy them one of those colorbooks for adults. My wife is on her fourth now, and still has no idea that she is doing anything "spiritual".

Other than that, the only thing you can do is do some nice cleaning/cleansing/banishing/shielding rituals in her home and around her. And remember, cleansing doesn't have to involve incense, chanting and mandalas. Being a considerate younger brother that listens to her problems and brings ice-cream/bad movies on a Wednesday night can be just as cleansing.

The third thing that is important with parasites is to get them out of the house and make sure that they don't isolate themselves. Go on a roadtrip, get drunk, fight some homeless people, go and have a nice walk in the park, go to a new restaurant or help her redecorate the flat. If you are mahayana, give her one of those fat laughing buddhas, they always cheer me up.

It's easy to get lost in the mystical side of the occult, but it's true that in most cases, the cure for such things lie in the basics.

I'm vajrayana, but i might get her a laughing buddha anyway.

Does she identify with mental illness or is that just something you're putting on her because you have a prejudice against the kind of experience she's having?

Vagueness isn't a problem if you're secure in spiritual matters, and neither is parasitic haunting.

Some people don't need cleansings and are actually harmed by them.

Some people are actual mystics. As in, they have to live that lifestyle in order to be healthy. Your idea of healthy may be radically different from theirs. What a person needs for wellbeing varies depending on personality type.

I hear cruelty in this thread. Invasiveness.
