Tattoos, Occulty or otherwise.

Hail,

So, I've always had a fascination with tattoos. I absolutely love seeing them on others, and want so badly to get some of my own. The only problem is that tattoos are expensive. There's also the whole "forever" thing, which makes me a little nervous. I've been putting serious thought into it for about a month now, and I know a few tattoos that I want to get.

I'd like to get the diagrams for Liber Nox and Liber Lux included in Carroll's Liber Null on my left and right wrists, respectively; then I want to get the diagram for Liber Aom on my left forearm. I figure these would be good places to start due to their small size and simplicity. Then I want to get a modified star of chaos on my left hand. It would have an elongated top branch that trails up to the knuckle on my middle finger, but the arrow on that branch would be flipped to resemble the Algiz rune. Then I want to work my way up my arm to eventually have a full sleeve, detailing the spiritual journey it took to find my little niche in chaos magick. By the time the tattoos hit the shoulder they'll have heavy Lovecraftian imagery to honor the works of fiction that set me on my occult journey. I want my right arm to end up with a full sleeve as well, but I haven't thought enough about that part to put it into words yet.

But anyways, y'all should share your tattoos if you have any. It doesn't matter if they have anything to do with the occult, I'm just curious to see them. As I said, I love tattoos. When they're done right, I think they can be the most beautiful artwork man is capable of creating, as they last through the life of a person, and then die with them. It's the most respectable and self-aware form of art, making beauty for the sake of beauty and not for the sake of continuing one's legacy after they've parted from the world, because the tattoo will be parting with them.

TL;DR show me your tattoos and help me think of more ideas.

Tattoos are cool, yes.

It is however entirely personal and only your taste can determine.

My input:
Whenever you decide it to the point of wanting to get it done the same day, give yourself a few weeks and imagine yourself with them as you go by your day.

Think about something that you might like all your life and not only on your current state.

Tattoos that remind you of something you want to keep in mind all your life are, in my opinion, a good choice.

Tattoos that invoke memories of dark times are not always a good choice. You might want to forget a catastrophe that happened 20 years ago and not be reminded everytime you take off your shirt. You might want to remember it. Depends on you and how you see painful past experience.

Tattoos on visible spots are asked about.

Tattoos on visible spots are seen by everybody (duh).

Tattoos don't need a cool meaning to give everybody who asks about or you yourself.

And the classic that everybody gives: if you plan on working for somebody else in a shit job and live a restrained life don't get them on your hands or lower arms.

Happy pain.

I'm of the school of thought that says reflecting upon pain and sadness are important. Through contemplation comes acceptance. Through acceptance comes knowledge, and the ability to function on a (metaphorically) higher plane within your own psychology.

I enjoy answering questions about things such as spirituality provided the person is intellectually stimulating. If they're not and they ask about, say, the star of chaos, well, "Oh it's just from Warhammer 40k mate."

Yeah honestly I want a VHS tattoo just because I like American Psycho and Hotline Miami.

I don't imagine that being a problem. Especially because of how far off the tattoos on SUPER visible places would be. Ideally I'd be done with shit jobs by the time I was ready to move on from the wrist tattoos to the sleeve or the star on the back of my hand.

I don't mean to be contratian or anything like that, I know I have a tendency to come across that way. Just starting a conversation :)

I have several, but not showing pics.

I have a calf wraparound, ankle to knee, right leg. It's a dragon rising from a boiling ocean, into a furious sky, with various representations of skulls within the waves and froth, it has a runic inscription within the artwork, but not immediately obvious to the scanning eye. (most of the time [wink])

Thanks, I think, lol.

I can cover it by wearing trousers or opaque tights, but folk do stare when it's exposed, most want to touch it or ask me about it and only a few folk shy away. I often forget it's there as I'm so used to it. I also have an eagle's head/ side profile with sun on my upper right arm and an angel/ demon on my upper back, from my neck, across the shoulder blades and down the spinal column, it is not finished yet, but will be some day I suppose.

Mine are active parts of who I am and are Occult related. All the work is single needle and was inked by a freehand specialist.

I have an ichthys triquetra between my shoulderblades (so three interlocked fish, need to get it touched up soon and it will likely become three serpents), the Eye of Horus on my back, a large multicolored Ma'at with her wings outstretched from hip to hip, and personal sigils on each wrist. I think that's everything? And no, not showing pictures, haha.

One thing that's funny is all my tattoos are easily covered by work clothes and whenever people catch a glimpse of one they always go, "whoa, you don't seem like the type to have tattoos!" So I think I must look more conservative than I really am? [gz]
